Penned by Barbara Hall, Madam Secretary follows the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life. The drama is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Tea Leoni, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Erich Bergen, Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller, Evan Roe and Katherine Herzer. The executive producers are Hall, Morgan Freeman, Tracy Mercer and Lori McCreary.

Even sat alongside CSI and NCIS spin-offs, Madam Secretary has emerged as one of, if not THE, hottest title that CBS Studios International is distributing this year. Buyers have pegged this one as “The West Wing set in the State Department” and its has impressed far and wide. This will be a big seller for the studio, who are expecting deals in every major territory – including the UK.

CBS TV Studios has spinoffs from two of the biggest drama franchises in the world, CSI and NCIS. Understandably, there is great interest in CSI: Cyber,starring Patricia Arquette, and NCIS; New Orleans, toplined by Scott Bakula, both by the networks that already carry the other series in the franchises and new players. Also getting a lot of buzz is new CBS drama Madam Secretarystarring Tea Leoni, which had executive producer Morgan Freeman attending every screening and shaking hands with buyers; action drama Scorpion, from Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci and Justin Lin; soapy CW drama Jane The Virgin, an adaptation of a Venezuelan telenovela; and Showtime infidelity drama The Affair.One thing that sets CBS’ screenings apart is summer series. “Last year, we spent time trying to explain the concept of summer event series, the idea of that shows like Under The Dome are not just throwaway, low-cost series,” Armando Nuñez, President and CEO of the CBS Global Distribution Group. “That made the discussion on Extant easier this year,” he added, referring to the summer sci-fi series starring Halle Berry, which has been getting strong buzz.
